Norfolk Southern Begins Construction on $95M Greencastle, Pennsylvania, Intermodal Yard

10/20/2010
Building began yesterday on a $95 million intermodal yard in Greencastle, Pennsylvania. Governor Edward G. Rendell and Norfolk Southern Corp. CEO Wick Moorman marked the start of construction on the public-private partnership that will create and enhance an anticipated 26,000 Pennsylvania jobs over the next 10 years.

"This project will help improve freight movement between the Gulf of Mexico and the northeastern U.S.," Rendell said. "The terminal will create jobs locally and the eventual realization of the Crescent Corridor through Pennsylvania will boost our economy. The state is pleased to partner with Norfolk Southern on this job-enhancing, long-term infrastructure investment."

The facility is a critical component of Norfolk Southern's Crescent Corridor, a 2,500-mile rail network from Mississippi through Pennsylvania. The state expects to save $33 million in reduced traffic congestion as a result of the project.
