Ricardo Upgrades Van Buren Township, Michigan, Operations

07/15/2026
Engineering and manufacturing company Ricardo plans to expand its operations in Van Buren Township, Michigan. The $24.1 million project is expected to create at least 114 jobs in Wayne County.

The investment will include a new manufacturing line to design, develop, and supply a high-performance gasoline-powered internal combustion engine for a customer.

“We're delighted to be growing our footprint in metropolitan Detroit, a region with a long, proud history of automotive technology. Having been established in Southeast Michigan for over 35 years, we’re excited to embed ourselves further into the region, to provide further opportunities for the community and our customers,” said Jason Oms O'Donnell, CEO of Ricardo.

To support the project, the Michigan Strategic Fund approved an $855,000 performance-based grant through the Michigan Business Development Program. In addition, Southeast Michigan Works! is providing workforce development support services.

“Ricardo’s expansion and investment in Van Buren Township is a great fit for the Detroit Region’s engineering and assembly talent, and will present new, strong career opportunities for our neighbors,” noted Justin Robinson, President and CEO of the Detroit Regional Partnership. “We’re proud to have been able to support and partner with Ricardo in bringing this underutilized facility back to life through regional data and research, incentive navigation, and talent connections.”

Ricardo is an engineering and manufacturing company that develops advanced propulsion systems, electrification technologies, and engineering solutions for the automotive, aerospace, defense, energy, and industrial sectors.
