Weidmann Electrical Technology Expands Middletown-Urbana, Ohio, Production Operations

07/12/2026
Electrical transformer insulation manufacturer Weidmann Electrical Technology plans to expand its operations in Middletown and Urbana, Ohio. The $155 million project is expected to create 105 jobs.

The investment will include the redevelopment of an approximately 16-acre brownfield site in Middletown as well as the increased production of specialized insulation paper products at the company's existing Urbana facility.

“Ohio has played an important role in Weidmann's success for many years, and this investment reflects our confidence in the region, its workforce, and its future,” said Wally Mahoney, Vice President of Operations Americas for Weidmann Electrical Technology. “As demand for power transformers continues to grow, expanding our operations in Ohio will strengthen our manufacturing capabilities, support our customers, and create new opportunities for growth in both Middletown and Urbana.”

To support the project, the Ohio Tax Credit Authority approved a 1.726%, nine-year Job Creation Tax Credit.

“Weidmann’s continued investment in Ohio is critical to the role it plays in U.S. energy security,” noted J.P. Nauseef, President and CEO of JobsOhio. “With support from REDI Cincinnati and the Dayton Development Coalition, the company will catalyze the expansion of energy transmission and secure the grid for future generations.”

Weidmann Electrical Technology, a division of Switzerland-based Weidmann Group, is a manufacturer of electrical insulation systems and components for power transformers and the electric utility industry. The company specializes in insulation materials manufacturing, precision component production, engineering, and testing for power transmission and distribution equipment.

“Weidmann’s expansion into Middletown represents the company’s sixth Electrical Technology location in the Americas and underscores the importance of foreign direct investment in our region’s diverse economy,” added Kevin Donnelly, Vice President of Project Management at REDI Cincinnati. “This investment strengthens Weidmann’s global manufacturing footprint, creates high-quality, well-paying regional jobs with competitive benefits, and supports Middletown’s broader economic development initiatives, including major infrastructure improvements, downtown revitalization efforts, and continued growth in advanced manufacturing.”

“Weidmann Electrical Technology first established an Ohio presence in Urbana to capitalize on the community’s highly skilled manufacturing workforce,” said Julie Sullivan, Executive Vice President of Regional Development at the Dayton Development Coalition. “The expansion in Urbana and the new facility in Middletown strengthen the company’s U.S. production capacity and will support Weidmann’s growth in the energy industry for years to come.”
