Plastic packaging manufacturer Berry Plastics will invest $20 million for renovations to its Franklin, Kentucky, facility. The company says in a statement that it will bring in new systems and equipment to improve energy efficiency and eliminate the distribution of fine particulates into the air. "The plant has been a key contributor to the economy of Franklin since 1957," says Ira G. Boots, chair and CEO of the Indiana-headquartered company. "The continued success of the facility is reflected not only in its strong leadership and management, but it is also enhanced because of the excellent resources provided by the state to keep businesses strong." The Kentucky governor's office says the state will provide Berry Plastics with $10 million in tax incentives over the next 10 years in exchange for the retention of the facility's 460 jobs; the incentives come from a fund specifically created to assist businesses in imminent danger of permanently closing.
