Ross Dress For Less Plans $1.7 Million-Square-Foot Distribution Center in Shafter, California

03/28/2013
Ross Dress for Less plans to build a 1.7 million-square-foot distribution center on 160-acres in Kern County, with estimates of creating 1,500 jobs in the Shafter, California region.

The center will be located at Roll Global’s Paramount Logistics Park, a 1,400-acre campus off 7th Standard Road, which already includes a Target. Ross Dress for Less already has two distribution centers in California.

Competitive land prices and a big labor pool contributed to Ross’ decision to locate in the valley, in addition to the availability of a BNSF railroad spur off the main line which serves the industrial park. Paramount Logistics Park also provides access to Highway 99, Interstate 5 and Highway 58, local officials said, according to a California Partnership for San Joaquin Valley report, citing the Bakersfield Californian.

Shafter City Manager John Guinn said Ross’ Distribution Center will help diversify the economy, creating jobs for both professionals and blue collar workers.
