Alternative Energy Company Expands in Connecticut

01/17/2008
FuelCell Energy, Inc., a manufacturer of high-efficiency clean power plants, will invest $10 million to expand its manufacturing facility in Torrington, Connecticut. More than 100 new jobs are expected as a result of the expansion, which will include new machinery and equipment, building improvements, and information technology upgrades. "Our fuel cells - which are highly efficient, operate 24/7, and produce near-zero pollutants and low CO2 - can help the state reach its clean and renewable goals for power generation," says R. Daniel Brdar, FuelCell Energy's chair and CEO. The company's fuel cells generate power at more than 40 locations worldwide using a variety of fuels, including wastewater gas, biogas from beer and food processing, and hydrocarbon fuels. The company received a $4 million loan from the state of Connecticut to initiate the expansion.
