General Electric Investing $10 Million to Expand Its World-Class Lewistown, PA, Facility
10/13/2011
GE is an advanced technology, services and finance company with more than 100,000 global employees and 2010 revenues of $38 billion. Its current 82,000 sq.-ft. facility employs over 230 people in the production of NDT inspection tools used by companies in the oil and gas, power generation, metals manufacturing, automotive and aerospace sectors.
The expansion will allow the company to maintain its position as a leader in developing and manufacturing a wide range of remote visual inspection, ultrasonic, electromagnetic, advanced radiography and computed tomography systems.
In addition, project plans include creating a NDT Academy used to train employees and customers on GE's latest NDT tools. The academy also will offer partnership opportunities for local colleges and universities.
Jeff Anderson, a senior executive with GE's Inspection Technologies business, said the expansion will be of great benefit to the central Pennsylvania region as GE's Lewistown site currently spends more than $5 million per year with Pennsylvania suppliers. "We will invest millions of dollars in new product development over the next few years," he added.
