10/09/2007
Changan Ford Mazda Automobile (CFMA), Ford Motor Company's and Mazda Motor Corp.'s joint venture in China, has officially begun operations at its manufacturing facility in Nanjing, China, where it will produce small cars for both the Ford and Mazda brands. According to Ford and Mazda officials, the US$510 million facility has an initial production capacity of about 160,000 vehicles per year, bringing Ford's annual capacity in China to more than 400,000 vehicles and moving Mazda toward a goal of producing 300,000 cars per year in China by 2010. China is currently the second-largest vehicle market in the world. Ford officials report that the state-of-the-art factory is capable of producing up to eight models on different chassis, and that environmentally friendly paint processing will be used for the first time in China.
