Plastics Manufacturer Investing $150 Million, Creating 360 New Jobs in Indiana

03/20/2009
Berry Plastics, a manufacturer of plastic packaging products, will invest $150 million to expand its facilities in Evansville, Indiana. The company says it plans to create 360 new jobs with the project. "We're excited to continue our long history of growth in Evansville, where we have enjoyed a terrific relationship with our community, government, and employees since 1967," says Bill Norman, Berry Plastics' executive vice president of strategic planning. "We are pleased to build on our outstanding work force in Evansville, which serves as the foundation for Berry to continue to strengthen our position as a leading plastic packaging supplier." The Indiana governor's office says Berry will expand its existing thermoform operations at the Evansville campus, and will construct a new 375,800-square-foot facility to increase its capacity for drink cup manufacturing. Construction is scheduled to begin next year. The company has been offered up to $4.9 million in performance-based tax credits and up to $200,000 in training grants, contingent on job creation; the city will also provide additional tax breaks.
