Beverage Company Locating Production Center in Indiana

08/12/2009
Tipton Mills, a producer of specialty beverages and drink mixes, will invest $1.2 million to locate a production and research facility in Columbus, Indiana, according to state economic development officials. The company, a subsidiary of industrial food producer Buffalo Blends, plans to create 40 new jobs with the project, the first outside its New York headquarters. It will renovate a 40,000-square-foot beverage processing space that was vacated earlier this year by another company; Tipton Mills has already rehired some of that facility's former employees. "With generous support from the state of Indiana, Columbus Economic Development, and the local chamber of commerce, our decision to open for business in Indiana was made with relative ease," says Tim Sheehy, president of Buffalo Blends and Tipton Mills. "The state-of-the-art technology we acquired at the facility will allow our business to grow by leaps and bounds." The state has offered the company up to $130,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $17,000 in training grants, contingent on job creation; the city will also consider property tax abatement.
