07/13/2009
Petra Solar, Inc., a designer and manufacturer of electric power products focused on solar energy and smart grids, will invest $7.6 million to expand its operations in South Plainfield, New Jersey, according to the New Jersey governor's office. The company plans to create 164 new jobs over the next two years with the project. Petra Solar's flagship product is the SunWave, a utility-grade solar module that enhances the reliability of electric distribution systems by utilizing solar technology. "The enhancement of electric distribution grid reliability through the interaction of solar generation and smart grid technology is compelling to our utility partners," says Shihab Kuran, Petra Solar's president and CEO. "My colleagues and I are committed to work every day to advance New Jersey as the nation's leader in the creation of green jobs and the source of innovative products that contribute to addressing global energy and climate challenges." The state has awarded the company $3.3 million in incentives through a fund created for energy companies; Petra Solar is the first company in the state to receive this funding.
