09/13/2025
The investment will include the purchase and renovation of an office building in Alexandria and the implementation of new technology at the company’s existing facility in Fairfax County.
“We are thrilled to deepen our roots in Alexandria and Fairfax County, two vibrant communities that have supported our growth for more than 50 years,” said SPA Chief Executive Officer Rich Sawchak. “This expansion reflects our commitment to providing exceptional data-driven analytical insights to our clients while fostering innovation within our own organization. We are excited to welcome new talent and invest in the local economy.”
To support the project Governor Youngkin approved $9.2 million in grants from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund and the Virginia Economic Development Incentive Grant. Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) will support?SPA’s job creation through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program, which provides consultative services and funding to companies creating new jobs in order to support employee recruitment and training activities. As a business incentive supporting economic development, VJIP reduces the human resource costs of new and expanding companies. VJIP is state funded, demonstrating Virginia’s commitment to enhancing job opportunities for citizens.
“After half a century of partnership with SPA, Virginia is beyond excited to see the company expand so rapidly in Northern Virginia,” noted Secretary of Commerce and Trade Juan Pablo Segura. “This announcement doesn’t just put SPA at the front of the pack, it puts the Commonwealth there as well. I am proud to join SPA, Alexandria, and Fairfax County in celebrating what this means for the region.”
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with the City of Alexandria and Fairfax County to secure the project.
“This project is a tremendous win for our community, and I am so incredibly proud to celebrate SPA’s decision to recommit to Northern Virginia with a significant expansion in Fairfax County,” added Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Vice Chair and Sully District Supervisor Kathy Smith. “The hundreds of new, high-paying jobs provide opportunities for our residents to contribute to missions of consequence, and to build careers that directly support the security and resilience of our nation.”
Systems Planning & Analysis (SPA) is a company providing data-driven analytical insights and decision support for complex national security programs for the US and its allies. The company has developed a suite of software tools to assist clients in strategic planning, technical analysis, systems engineering, and operational analysis to address challenging issues in defense and security.
“This was a competitive expansion and retention project, and we are thrilled SPA has decided to continue their 50-year track record of success in Alexandria,” said Alexandria Economic Development Partnership President & CEO Stephanie Landrum. “Their community investment will not only provide good jobs in Alexandria, it will also set the next generation of Alexandrians up for success and positively impact our commercial tax base.”
