Realta Fusion Plans Madison, Wisconsin, Headquarters-Research Operations

07/20/2026
Fusion energy company Realta Fusion plans to establish headquarters and research operations in Madison, Wisconsin. The $567 million project is expected to create approximately 600 jobs.

The investment will include the renovation of a portion of the OM Station redevelopment, the former Oscar Mayer facility, and the installation of new equipment for the company’s prototype magnetic mirror fusion machine, Hammir.

"We spent the better part of the past two years searching across the country to find the most favorable business environment and the most attractive site to build our R&D facility, and we found it in our own backyard," said Kieran Furlong, CEO of Realta Fusion.

The project is supported by an incentive package including an estimated $37.5 million in state sales and use tax exemptions, up to $15 million in performance-based Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation enterprise zone tax credits, and $2.8 million in tax increment financing from the City of Madison.

“Fusion energy is an emerging global industry where Wisconsin and the Great Lakes Region are uniquely positioned to lead,” noted John W. Miller, Secretary and CEO of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC). “WEDC welcomes Realta’s decision to stay in Wisconsin and continue its game-changing work where it all began.”

Realta Fusion develops magnetic mirror fusion technology designed to deliver commercially viable fusion energy for industrial and utility-scale applications. The company is developing its prototype fusion system, Hammir, as it advances toward commercial deployment.
