EMD Electronics Plans Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, Research-Development Operations

10/12/2026
Semiconductor materials supplier EMD Electronics has established operations in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. The $200 million project is expected to create 44 jobs.

The company’s new 38,000-square-foot research and development facility includes eight specialized laboratories supporting materials discovery, development, qualification, purification, packaging and hazard testing.

“The semiconductor industry is entering a period where integrated workflow solutions play a defining role in enabling the next generation of devices, particularly as AI drives increasing complexity and performance requirements,” said EMD Electronics Executive Vice President and Head of Thin Films Dr. Bing Han. “Materials innovation remains at the core of that transformation, but success increasingly depends on combining materials discovery, process expertise, and scale-up capabilities. This new facility brings together the capabilities needed to work alongside our customers on their most complex materials challenges and accelerate innovation from the lab to commercial production.”

To support the expansion, the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) is providing up to $4.5 million in performance-based tax credits. The amount of credits awarded will depend on the company’s capital investment and job creation commitments.

“EMD Electronics’ continued investment in Sheboygan Falls demonstrates the important role Wisconsin’s skilled workforce and strong manufacturing foundation can play in the future of the semiconductor industry,” noted WEDC Secretary and CEO John W. Miller. “This R&D facility brings advanced research and development capabilities to our state, creates opportunities for highly skilled jobs, and strengthens Wisconsin’s position as a place where global companies can develop and scale the technologies of the future.”

EMD Electronics develops and supplies specialty materials and technologies used in semiconductor manufacturing. The company provides materials and process solutions that support chip fabrication, advanced electronics and next-generation semiconductor applications.
