Zapp Precision Wire Plans $30 Million Expansion At Its Summerville, South Carolina, Manufacturing Center
11/20/2014
“Zapp has found South Carolina to be a welcoming, family-oriented location for our American wire operations. As a 300-year-old, family-owned company, we have enjoyed being part of the Summerville and Charleston area community for the past 20 years. We are very pleased to be expanding our operations and adding people, capacity and capabilities,” Zapp Group Executive Board Member Dr. Stefan Seng said.
“ Over the next several years, we will break ground for a new building addition and install the steel-working equipment needed to produce precision metallic bars. While Zapp operates similar equipment in Europe today, this state-of-the-art equipment will give us the ability to better support our North American customers while also increasing our global capacity to produce close-tolerance metallic bars,” Seng added.
Founded in 1701 in Germany as a craft trade firm, the Zapp Group has committed more than three centuries to the steel industry. In that time, the companies of the Zapp Group have expanded their offerings to include three main business areas – precision strip, precision wire and materials engineering. With operations in Asia, Europe, North America and South America, the Zapp Group possesses a truly global footprint.
In 1996, the Zapp Group opened its first United States production facility in Dorchester County. Located at 475 International Circle in Summerville, this expanded facility will allow the firm to accommodate a new production line, as well as manufacturing machinery and equipment. The expansion will add approximately 30,000 square feet to the existing facility.
“Zapp Precision Wire established operations in South Carolina nearly 20 years ago, and their decision to expand in Dorchester County is a testament to our state’s world-class workforce and strong business environment. We congratulate them on this $30 million investment and the addition of 20 new jobs, and look forward to seeing them continue to succeed in our state for years to come” said Governor Nikki Haley.
