Mohawk Industries Invests $85 Million To Convert Two Manufacturing Facilities In Rome and Dalton, Georgia

Mohawk Industries will invest about $85 million to convert two manufacturing facilities in Dalton and Rome, Georgia, creating 420 new jobs during the next two years. The facilities will be converted from yarn spinning plants to bulk continuous filament twisting and heat setting plants, enabling both facilities to keep up with growing demand.

The conversion will create an additional 420 jobs at the Mohawk facility in Dalton and preserve 230 jobs at its facility in Rome. Mohawk will utilize assistance from Georgia Quick Start, the state’s workforce training program, to train its current and new employees, and the hiring process is planned to begin mid-2014. The Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce also assisted the company with its conversion projects.

“As the U.S. economic recovery gains traction, Mohawk is increasing manufacturing capacity to meet rising demand for the company’s premium soft carpets,” said Joe Yarbrough, Mohawk’s senior vice president of advanced manufacturing engineering. “These major investments in Dalton and Rome – in addition to the company’s previously announced Summerville project – will create or retain more than 1,000 excellent jobs across the region. We anticipate that these expansions will begin operation in 2014. We are grateful to our local, regional and state partners for their support of these expansions and for sharing our commitment to build a brighter future for northwest Georgia.”
