Asurion Corp. Expands in Nashville, Tennessee, with Cash Grant Aid
02/08/2011
"If you're serious about economic development, participating in some sort of local incentive is important," Alexia Poe, the mayor's director of economic and community development, told the Tennesseean. "When the state is willing to be committed to bringing and keeping companies here, we have to do our part because there are 94 other counties they can be working with."
Asurion considered other locations both in- and out-of-state for its expansion, including Williamson County, south of Nashville.
Called the Metro grant, Asurion will receive $500 for each job created. It will receive an additional $2.1 million over three years for employee training, relocation, and real estate expenses.
"We're very excited the city stepped up to help offset some of our challenges," said Bettie Colombo, a company spokesperson.
Asurion currently employs 1,200 people in Nashville. It is considering locating in the city's Grassmere Business Park or another location.
