New York Power Authority Receives 11 Wind Farm Proposals

"It certainly shows me that people are taking this very seriously, developers in particular," Power Authority President and CEO Richard M. Kessel told the Democrat and Chronicle. "From what I understand, there are companies from all over the world. I think this project has attracted international attention."
The Authority says there is room for up to 1,000 wind turbines in Lake Ontario and 1,200 in Lake Erie, although it will not construct that many. It expects each wind farm to generate up to 500 megawatts of electricity.
Proposals are due on June 1, and Kessel expects at least one project to be chosen by the end of the year. There are currently no wind farms in North America.
