Sydor Optics Expands Rochester, New York, Operations

Photonics manufacturer Sydor Optics plans to expand its operations in Rochester, New York. The $32 million project is expected to create up to 36 new jobs in Monroe County.

The investment will include the construction of a new 100,000-square-foot facility at the company’s existing site.

“This project represents another big step for our company as we continue to grow to better serve our customers,” said Sydor Optics President Matthew Sydor. “This world-class facility here in Rochester is critical for our company’s future and we are incredibly grateful to Empire State Development and to all of our local economic development partners for their continued support. Rochester is home to the Optics, Photonics, and Imaging industry and we are truly proud to be a part of that legacy.”

To support the project, Empire State Development has offered up to $450,000 in performance-based Excelsior Jobs Program tax credits tied to the creation of 36 new jobs over the next five years. Monroe County and Greater Rochester Enterprise are assisting with the project.

Sydor Optics specializes in precision optics manufacturing, including double-sided grinding and polishing, continuous pad polishing, and CNC and laser machining. The company supplies custom-engineered and high-volume optical components for the aerospace, defense, biomedical, semiconductor, telecommunications and entertainment industries.
