Navistar To Move Into its $110 Million Lisle, Illinois, Headquarters By Late Summer
04/04/2012
The firm will move from its nearby Warrenville location into the former headquarters of Lucent Technologies on Warrenville Road, retaining an estimated 1,400 jobs and creating a similar amount of new positions over the next several years.
Its new Lisle headquarters will include engineering and new product design divisions, executive management and business operations. The firm also plans an $80 million investment in its Melrose Park facility and another $15 million in a new parts facility in northern Illinois. Combined, Navistar will be investing $205 million in Illinois, a company spokesman said.
"Governor Pat Quinn and Attorney General Madigan showed great leadership in working with Navistar and the community to make it possible for us to move into this world-class campus and to create economic opportunities for the whole region," said Navistar Chairman, President and CEO Dan Ustian said. "We appreciate them standing up for us."
The Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity worked with Navistar on a package of incentives which included providing tax credits for creating and retaining jobs and making significant capital investments. The firm also received the property at a greatly reduced price.
The Quinn administration committed an investment package of up to nearly $65 million. "We tailored a targeted investment package to meet the company's needs and keep thousands of people working," said Governor Quinn. "By being innovative and aggressive, we're seeing significant investment in Illinois, which is creating more jobs and moving our economic recovery forward."
Ustian said "the new campus will be a customer showplace that highlights the company's new integrated product development capabilities. Navistar is a leader in developing commercial trucks, buses and diesel engines that meet tough emissions standards across the globe," he said "In addition, the company is at the forefront of new commercial vehicle technology. Among the cutting edge products that will be developed at the campus are hybrid and electric vehicles and military vehicles, which save the lives of U.S. Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. "
