Intermountain Electronics Expands Centralia, Illinois, Factory, Production Operations

05/21/2026
Power distribution equipment manufacturer Intermountain Electronics plans to expand its operations in Centralia, Illinois. The more than $15.3 million project is expected to create 60 jobs.

The investment at the company's existing facility will include an additional 108,000 square feet of manufacturing space to increase production capacity for Power Distribution Units.

“Today’s groundbreaking marks an important milestone not only for Intermountain Electronics, but for the Centralia community,” said Tim Benedict, General Manager of Intermountain Electronics’ Centralia facility. “Demand for clean, reliable power is accelerating rapidly, driven by AI, data centers, and renewable energy. This expansion positions our Centralia team at the forefront of that growth while creating high-quality jobs and long-term economic opportunity for the region.”

The project is being supported through a REV Illinois agreement with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

“REV Illinois continues to support the state’s growing clean energy economy,” noted DCEO Director Kristin Richards. “With over a decade of success in Centralia, Intermountain Electronics’ expansion will build upon the company’s manufacturing legacy while creating 60 new full-time jobs in Southern Illinois.”

Intermountain Electronics designs and manufactures electrical distribution and control systems for industrial, mining, and energy applications. The company’s operations include engineering, fabrication, integration, and servicing of electrical equipment and power systems.

“As demand grows for the infrastructure powering the clean energy transition and next-generation energy systems, Illinois manufacturers are stepping up to meet the moment,” added Christy George, President and CEO of the Illinois Economic Development Corporation. “Companies like Intermountain Electronics are strengthening domestic supply chains and creating high-quality careers, reinforcing Southern Illinois’ important role in Illinois’ growing clean energy and advanced manufacturing economy.”

"This expansion is a massive win for Centralia's economy and our local workforce," said Rob Jackson, City of Centralia’s Economic Development Director. "By bringing 60 new full-time, high-wage jobs to our community, and expanding their total workforce at the Centralia location to over 200 employees, IE is proving that Centralia has the infrastructure, the business-friendly climate, and the skilled workforce necessary to compete on a national level. We have thoroughly enjoyed working with Tim, Brenda, and the rest of the team at IE, and look forward to a continued partnership.”
