Furniture Maker Adding Jobs in North Carolina

07/23/2008
Thomasville Furniture will add more than 100 jobs at its Lenoir, North Carolina, plant, the company's last remaining U.S. case goods operation. The Hickory Daily Record newspaper reports that company officials say the increased cost of doing business in Asia - including rising labor and shipping costs and soaring fuel prices - prompted their decision to increase capacity by one-third at the Lenoir facility. Thomasville, a subsidiary of Missouri-based Furniture Brands International, plans to hire both experienced and inexperienced workers to fill the positions; company officials say they plan to have the new hires in place by the end of the year.
