Electric Car Maker Investing $84M, Creating 4,000 Jobs in Kentucky

08/25/2008
Integrity Automotive LLC, as part of a partnership with electric car manufacturer Zero Air Pollution (ZAP), will locate a construct a new $84 million plant in Franklin, Kentucky, to produce low-speed electric vehicles. According to the Kentucky governor's office, the project is expected to create more than 4,000 jobs over the next four years, at an average hourly wage of $20 plus benefits. California-based ZAP currently manufactures its vehicles in China. The partnership has been offered a tax incentive package worth up to $48 million based on job creation. Earlier this month, the governor signed an executive order permitting the use of low-speed electric vehicles - like those manufactured by ZAP - on Kentucky roads with a posted speed limit of 45 miles per hour or less. Production is scheduled to begin at the plant during the middle of next year. Media reports say ZAP received unsolicited offers from 14 states for the project, with Kentucky and Indiana the manufacturer's final choices.
