Electronics Company Expanding, Creating 850 Jobs in Florida

09/15/2008
Jabil Circuit, a provider of electronics design, manufacturing, and supply chain management services, will construct a new headquarters and manufacturing plant in St. Petersburg, Florida, where it is currently located. More than 850 jobs will be created as part of the project. "As a global, publicly traded corporation, we employ hundreds of people in highly skilled technical positions such as engineering and information technology; professionals in supply chain management; quality professionals and a variety of corporate support functions," says Timothy L. Main, Jabil's president and CEO. "We are delighted to expand on that tradition as we increase our employment base with great people engaged in our core manufacturing operations." The $54 million expansion will be offset by a $34.4 million incentives package offered to the company by the state and local government agencies, including direct cash incentives of $20 million. Jabil had previously announced layoffs and potential relocation out of the state. Groundbreaking on the new facility, at a site yet to be determined, will take place later this year.
