Chobani Plans Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, Production Operations

Food manufacturer Chobani plans to establish operations in Upper Macungie Township, Pennsylvania. The $1.2 billion project is expected to create 900 jobs.

The investment will include the acquisition of Keurig Dr Pepper’s 1.5 million-square-foot manufacturing facility which will process more than three billion pounds of milk annually. Production is scheduled to begin in 2027.

“When I first walked through this factory, I knew there was something special here,” said Chobani Founder and CEO Hamdi Ulukaya. “The facility, the equipment, the scale, but most importantly, the people. There's already an incredibly talented team here that knows how to make great food. The foundation is strong. And we have an opportunity to build something extraordinary on top of it.”

To support the project, the state of Pennsylvania will provide $50 million in loans and grants through the Pennsylvania Strategic Investments to Enhance Sites (PA SITES) Program.

“Chobani’s historic investment in Pennsylvania is a tremendous win for our Commonwealth, our economy, and our agriculture industry,” noted Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary Rick Siger. “This project in the Lehigh Valley will further strengthen Pennsylvania’s world-class dairy industry by creating new opportunities for our farmers, supporting local suppliers, and building a stronger food manufacturing ecosystem. Governor Shapiro’s economic development strategy is focused on making bold investments like this one that support businesses and create real opportunity for Pennsylvanians.”

Chobani may also be able to access tax credits through the Department of Revenue’s Pennsylvania Economic Development for a Growing Economy (PA EDGE) program’s Pennsylvania Milk Processing (PMP) Tax Credit.. Additionally, the Shapiro Administration is supporting the project through the Pennsylvania (PA) Permit Fast Track Program.

“Getting this site reused was one of my first projects in this job. History comes around, and tomorrow that plant will be bigger and better than we could have ever dreamed, as the Chobani products will be made by 900 Lehigh Valley workers,” added Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation (LVEDC) President and CEO Don Cunningham. “So, Governor, Mr. Ulukaya, all of you, thank you for believing in the Lehigh Valley and being part of our family.”

Chobani is a food and beverage company that manufactures yogurt, oat milk, coffee creamers, and other dairy and plant-based products.
