SB Mfg Locates Aluminum Casting Parts Production At Florida-based Manufacturing Plant
11/26/2012
The announcement comes at a perfect time when reshoring manufacturing jobs has become a hot topic in the media, and economists are buzzing about September’s rise in U.S. manufacturing activity from 49.6 percent to 51.5 percent on the Institute for Supply Management’s factory index, the Pasco Economic Development Council said.
After evaluating several locations in Kentucky and Ohio as well as Florida, the firm decided to establish its manufacturing center in eastern Pasco County’s Dade City Business Center. “We are in the process of installing equipment and have set a tentative schedule to begin hiring manufacturing employees in December,” said Bill Kelley, General Manager for SB Mfg.
“We’re excited to see new manufacturing jobs coming to Dade City,” said Pasco County Commissioner Ted Schrader. ”This shows when we work together on a local, regional, and state level, we can bring these types of opportunities home to the United States and to Pasco County.”
“SB’s choice of Florida reflects the continuing growth of manufacturing in our state,” said Gray Swoope, president and CEO of Enterprise Florida. “This has been possible because of the effectiveness of corporate, government and community partnerships in building Florida’s economy. Our teamwork is enabling the state to attract and maintain manufacturing operations amid stiff competition on both a national and global scale.”
“Dade City is becoming a hub of activity for manufacturing,” said John Moors, president of the Greater Dade City Chamber of Commerce. “We’ve had several announcements this year, and I expect even more in 2013.”
The company is working with Career Central to recruit new employees and will be working with the Florida Manufacturing Extension Partnership’s M.O.S.T. training program. The facility expects to be operational on or before February 2013 and will operate seven days with three shifts.
As an incentive SB Mfg was approved for the Florida Qualified Target Industry tax refund program and is the first business locating in Pasco County to receive its Brownfield Job Creation Bonus. These are performance-based state incentives meaning that the refunds are awarded after job requirements have been met. Information on the amount of the firm’s investment was not immediately available.
