Clarios Expands St. Joseph, Missouri, Operations

05/09/2026
Battery manufacturer Clarios plans to expand its operations in St. Joseph, Missouri. The up to $390 million project is expected to create up to 123 jobs.

The investment will include the modernization of the company’s exiting automotive battery manufacturing facility and distribution center to expand production capacity and improve customer service.

“We’re proud of our investments in St. Joseph and what it means to our workers and this community,” said Marc Andraca, President of Clarios U.S. Region. “This collaboration with local and state leaders will help fuel growth for decades to come.” To support the project, Clarios will benefit from the Missouri Works Program, which provides access to capital through tax credits or withholdings tied to job creation. The company is estimated to receive $5.6 million in program benefits, subject to meeting investment and employment requirements.

“Projects like this reflect the strength of our regional partnerships and the value of investing in communities that keep Missouri’s economy moving,” noted Michelle Hataway, Director of the Missouri Department of Economic Development.

Clarios also may receive assistance from Missouri One Start for recruitment and workforce training.

“This is a major win for St. Joseph and our hardworking residents,” added Natalie Hawn, President and CEO of the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce. “The investment strengthens economic momentum and creates new opportunities for families in the region.”

Clarios is a manufacturer of energy storage products for automotive and industrial applications, producing low-voltage batteries and related systems for vehicle manufacturers and aftermarket customers. The company’s operations include battery design, manufacturing, recycling, and distribution.

“Evergy is proud to support Clarios as they expand their footprint across two facilities in St. Joseph,” said Carrie Koelzer, Customer Solutions Manager for Evergy. “We value our partnership with Clarios and look forward to their continued success.”
