Ubisoft Looks to Canada for Creativity
Location Canada 2009
Exaggeration? Probably not, given what his Montréal team has accomplished over the past few years. His studio has already been acclaimed the fourth-best design studio in the world by Game Informer, one of the most influential magazines in the industry.
The impressive list of winning games developed by the studio in recent years recently prompted Paris-based Ubisoft Entertainment to announce a €300 million expansion in Quebec over the next six years. The number of Canadian-based Ubisoft employees will nearly double, from 1,600 to 3,000. This latest expansion will mean that the majority of Ubisoft's worldwide design employees will be based in Canada by 2013.
Ubisoft President and CEO Yves Guillemot notes that "the innovation of employees [in Québec], the excellence of the education system, and the quality of life" are important reasons behind the firm's Canadian expansion.
