Maui Jim Expands Peoria, Illinois, Operations
11/06/2023
The new 150,000-square-foot manufacturing, warehouse and distribution center will be located on Allen Road next to the company’s existing facility.
“Peoria’s very proud of Maui Jim to see they are expanding their footprint makes us even more proud,” said Peoria City Manager Patrick Urich. “Being a company that was created here and really took off, I think that we’re very proud to see that we have the hundreds of Maui Jim employees here in Peoria that are working, and we’re very excited that Kering Eyewear is going to have a footprint here as well, and that hopefully we’ll see that number continues to grow.”
Peoria City Council unanimously approved the redevelopment agreement to reimburse a majority of its property taxes paid by Maui Jim through the Medina Plains-Allen Road Business Park Tax Increment Financing District. Under the TIF redevelopment agreement, Maui Jim will recoup 85% of its property taxes; the city has a pre-existing agreement that directs 15% of the TIF money to the Dunlap School District.
Maui Jim recently was acquired by Italy-based Kering Eyewear, which is a subsidiary of Paris-based Kering Group. Kering Eyewear’s American operations are headquartered in New Jersey.
