The investment will expand and modernize the company’s existing facility, increasing production of compound semiconductors for spacecraft and satellites.
"Semiconductors are central to modern life, to our economy, and to America's future. We are proud to be strengthening that future with the support of the CHIPS Office by expanding our production facilities to meet growing demand for the semiconductors that power the nation's most critical science, defense and commercial space missions," said Rocket Lab founder and CEO, Sir Peter Beck. "For more than two decades the SolAero team, now part of Rocket Lab, has played a crucial role in the domestic production of semiconductors. This program is a continuation of our commitment to ensuring resilient U.S. supply chains and creating highly productive local jobs."
The company was recently awarded a $23.9 million Federal CHIPS and Science Act grant. In addition, the State of New Mexico will provide financial assistance and incentives totaling $25.5 million to support the project.
“With the focused economic leadership of Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, New Mexico is seeing strong job growth in the high-paying manufacturing and technology sectors. We are getting national recognition as companies here grow with solid long-term state and community partnerships,” New Mexico EDD Acting Cabinet Secretary Roper noted.
Rocket Lab USA, Inc. is an aerospace manufacturer and launch service provider that operates and launches lightweight Electron orbital rockets used to provide dedicated launch services for small satellites as well as a suborbital variant of Electron called HASTE.
