Envergia Plans Detroit, Michigan, Lithium-ion Battery Recycling Operations

Envergia Incorporated, a lithium-ion and electric vehicle battery recycling, plans to establish operations in Detroit. Michigan. The $32.6 million project is expected to create 52 jobs.

The new 115,560-square-foot facility, located at the Detroit Gateway Industrial Center, will recycle batteries into black mass materials.

This city embodies resilience, innovation, and opportunity,” said MJ Chandilya, Envergia Founder & CEO. “By partnering with the City of Detroit and MEDC, Envergia is not just scaling our vision for clean energy—we are investing in Michigan’s future, creating jobs, and ensuring that Detroit continues to lead in building a sustainable economy.”

The project is being supported by a Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant in the amount of $750,000. In addition, the City of Detroit has assisted in the form of expediting the permitting process for the project at the project site.

Envergia’s process turns Li-ion battery waste into ultra pure fractions of valuable powders and metals. The company provides a closed loop recovery service which is a circular and scalable solution.
