World’s Largest Automated Pharmacy Coming to Indiana

11/16/2007
Medco Health Solutions, Inc. will build the world's largest and most advanced automated pharmacy facility in one of three Central Indiana counties in the Indianapolis area, with the exact location selection to be determined before the end of this year. A statement from the Indiana governor's office reports that the new, 318,000-square-foot facility will cover an area equivalent to six and one-half football fields, bringing approximately 1,300 new jobs to the area at full operation. The company plans to begin operations in early 2009 and reach peak operations in 2012. Medco plans to invest approximately $140 million to develop the next-generation mail-order facility that will employ pharmacists, technicians, engineers, and managers. According to the governor's office, state and local incentives offered to Medco include more than $18 million in performance-based tax credits.
