BorgWarner Inc. Plans $13.3 Million Expansion At Its Seneca, South Carolina, Manufacturing Facility
05/28/2015
In addition to this expansion, BorgWarner also has recently reached an agreement with the City of Seneca to lease approximately 100,000 square feet within the Seneca Commerce Center, located at 320 Shiloh Road. The company will use the newly-leased facility as warehouse space.
The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to the project.
“Through hard work and dedication, our team has built BorgWarner’s outstanding reputation as a premier transfer case supplier. Numerous customer awards attest to the quality we deliver. Our 2015 South Carolina Silver Crescent Award for Manufacturing Excellence also demonstrates our dedication to promoting manufacturing, supporting education and helping those in need in the local community. We are pleased to continue expanding in South Carolina,” said Dr. Stefan Demmerle, President/General Manager, BorgWarner TorqTransfer Systems.
BorgWarner last announced a South Carolina expansion in November 2013, a $24.6 million investment that created 105 new jobs. With this new expansion, BorgWarner will be remaining in its existing facility, located at 15545 Wells Highway in Seneca. Aimed at increasing the facility’s transfer case production, the expansion will be achieved with the purchase of new machinery and the expected hiring of 50 new employees, which will bring its total local employment to more than 750.
“The fact that BorgWarner has decided to expand its South Carolina operations for the second time in less than 2 years is a testament to South Carolina’s pro-business environment and hardworking workforce. This $13 million investment and the 50 new jobs it will create will make a real difference in Oconee County, and we look forward to watching this great company continue to grow for many more years,” Governor Nikki Haley said.
“BorgWarner is a great example of a company that’s been able to make the most of all that Oconee County has to offer. We recognize the importance of existing industry and will continue to be an advocate for them for years to come,” Oconee Economic Alliance Chairman Glenn Buddin said.
