06/10/2014
“The team at MicroPort Orthopedics is excited to partner with the state of Tennessee to expand our operations. Together, MicroPort and Tennessee will create high quality jobs, attract and retain top caliber employees, and manufacture world-class medical devices for the global orthopedic market. We truly appreciate the support we have received from our state and local officials, especially those working in the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development,” Ted Davis, CEO of MicroPort Orthopedics, said.
“This partnership will allow MicroPort to accelerate plans to build a state-of-the-art training facility to educate new surgeon customers and sales team members, which will contribute directly to our future growth prospects. We look forward to strengthening our relationships with the city of Arlington, Shelby County, and the state of Tennessee in building on the investment our parent company, MicroPort Scientific Corp., has made in the global orthopedic business headquartered in Arlington, Tennessee,” he added.
MicroPort Orthopedics Inc. is a subsidiary of MicroPort Scientific Corporation, which is based in Shanghai, China. MicroPort Orthopedics designs, develops, and manufactures hip and knee implant devices at its Arlington campus. In addition to job creation, the company will renovate existing facilities on the Arlington campus, creating a state-of-the-art medical education facility to train surgeons, sales representatives and employees on their orthopedic products and surgical techniques.
“I want to thank MicroPort Orthopedics for their continued investment in Tennessee and the new jobs they are creating in Shelby County,” Governor Bill Haslam said. “Expanding companies already located here is one of our priorities, and this announcement supports our goal of becoming the No.1 location in the Southeast for high quality jobs.”
“Tennessee exports over $32.4 billion worth of products around the world, of which medical equipment and supplies are our top category,” Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bill Hagerty said. “Our state’s strength in research and development allows global companies like MicroPort Orthopedics to feel confident in their continued investment, knowing their commitment to innovation is valued and supported in Tennessee. I appreciate MicroPort Orthopedics’ decision to expand in our state and the valuable jobs they are creating in the Memphis community, and I look forward to their further growth in Tennessee.”
