Windsor, Ontario's Last GM Plant Closes

07/28/2010
General Motors closed today in Windsor, Ontario after operating in the city for 90 years, CBC News reports. The closure will result in 500 layoffs. The city was once known as the center of Canada's auto sector. The facility produced transmissions.

GM once had more than 7,000 employees in Windsor, but has gradually decreased over the years. The closing facility is GM's last in Windsor. The company still has Ontario plants in Ingersoll, St. Catharines, and Oshawa.

Canadian Auto Workers President Ken Lewenza said he still expected the company to invest in Windsor in the future.
