Metro Mold And Design Opens $5.2 million Medical Manufacturing Center in Twin Cities
07/03/2012
The firm focuses its efforts on rapid mold manufacturing, custom plastic injection molding, thermoset plastic molding, extrusion blow molding, precision CNC machining, product prototyping and product assembly and finishing. Its customer markets include general manufacturing, medical devices, and fuel cell components specializing in bi-polar plates for fuel cell stack, printer components, custom plastic containers and enclosures
"We are excited to continue growing our footprint in Minnesota and to be bringing great new jobs to the local market. Our facility in Brooklyn Park has the capacity to employ 250 people and we fully intend to ramp up to full capacity over the next 5 years," said Greg Heinemann, the firm's Chief Financial Officer.
The facility also serves a growing need for local medical manufacturing facilities. Much of the $5.2 million dollar investment in this new facility is focused on expanding capacity for clean room manufacturing, as well as micro-molding and high precision multi-axis swiss machining capabilities.
MMD is one of the few companies offering these sophisticated capabilities to the medical device market. "As we've grown from $4.5 million in revenue in 2000 to over $50 million in revenue this year, we were nearly bursting at the seams in our old facility," Tim Holland, the company's president and Chief Executive Officer said.
"Our investment in this new facility displays our commitment to growing along with our customers. It was a critical next step for MMD that will allow us to serve the growing needs of our medical OEM customers and foster a collaborative environment that spawns the intellectual property MMD and its partners need to thrive in today's global economy, " Holland added.
MMD serves medical device manufacturers throughout the country and nearly all of the top medical device companies in the local Twin Cities market. Much of MMD's decision to open its facility in Brooklyn Park centered on the city's willingness to work with MMD to secure a $500,000 low interest loan through the Minnesota Investment Fund, as well as an additional $600,000 in local assistance made available through the Jobs Bill Legislation.
"Brooklyn Park is excited to welcome MMD to the community. We are proud of the partnership that transformed an existing building in the community into a state of the art medical manufacturing facility. MMD's presence expands this industry in Brooklyn Park and continues to provide excellent job opportunities," says Jason Aarsvold, Director of Community Development for the City of Brooklyn Park.
