Vertical Autonomy Expands Jackson County, Michigan, Operations

Unmanned aircraft systems manufacturer Vertical Autonomy plans to expand its operations in Jackson County, Michigan. The $28.72 million project is expected to create at least 70 jobs.

The investment will include the consolidation and relocation of key operational assets into a new manufacturing and operations facility in Jackson County as well as the upgrade of infrastructure at the company’s existing site in Hillsdale County.

“Michigan has long been where ambitious ideas take flight. We are thrilled to establish Vertical Autonomy here and create a world-class family of drones—designed, engineered, and built by the same Michigan talent that has powered generations of transportation innovation,” said Stephen Ziegenfuss, co-founder of Vertical Autonomy.

To support the project, the Michigan Strategic Fund awarded the company a $455,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant.

Vertical Autonomy designs, manufactures and operates vertical take-off and landing autonomous aircraft and supporting autonomy systems for defense, public safety, scientific and commercial applications, with a primary focus on the defense drone market and U.S. government customers.
