GE Aviation Systems Remaining Open in New York; 255 Jobs Retained

10/23/2009
A series of state, local, and utility incentives will keep a GE Aviation Systems facility in Bohemia, New York, from closing, and the package will preserve 255 jobs, according to Newsday. The $10 million package covers a 10-year period and includes financing from state agencies, the Town of Islip, the state's power authority, and Long Island's two major utility companies; it includes grants for infrastructure improvements and energy conservation, as well as local property tax abatement and utility rate reductions. "GE is committed to growing our business on Long Island, and will invest in capital equipment, building renovations, and employee training," says Lorraine Bolsinger, the company's president and CEO, in statement from the New York governor's office. "Over the next 10 years, we are counting on the Long Island facility to grow in size and in new product development." GE Aviation Systems manufactures power conversion products and cockpit control assemblies for military and commercial aircraft; Bolsinger says the Bohemia facility has been involved in airplane parts and components production since 1963.
