Western Express Plans $88 Million Expansion in Nashville, Tennessee
05/01/2019
The company was founded in 1991 and operates more than 2,600 tractor trucks and 6,500 trailers. Western Express employs more than 2,100 full-time positions in Tennessee and has a total of 3,600 employees worldwide.
According to state officials, with this expansion Western Express will add new technology, business services and back office support at its headquarters in Nashville. The company will also invest in new trucks, trailers, GPS and other transportation related equipment. In addition to the 225 headquarters positions, Western Express will hire more than 350 driving associates each year over the next five years.
“This is an exciting time for Western Express. Our company is proud to be a part of the growth in Nashville. We opened our first terminal in Nashville in 1991. Our expansion has been through organic growth and acquisitions. We will continue to grow our fleet and our team. Our plan for 2019 will exceed $800 million in revenue. Western Express would like to thank the State of Tennessee for its support of our organization and the transportation industry,” Western Express President & CEO Paul Wieck said.
“Tennessee is home to more than 16,000 distribution and logistics establishments, and we continue to see an uptick in this industry’s momentum. I want to thank Western Express for continuing to grow this industry and for choosing to expand its Nashville headquarters,” said Bob Rolfe, Commissioner of TNECD.
“We are so proud of the expansion of the Western Express headquarters here in Nashville. This is great news for its employees, greater opportunities for jobs for residents and its clients as well as the entire state of Tennessee. For years Western Express has provided excellent trucking services for businesses and vendors throughout Middle Tennessee and our surrounding states. I wish them continued success, and I will continue to support pro-growth policies to permit Western Express and other great Nashville companies to grow, expand, and to achieve their dreams,” State Senator Brenda Gilmore noted.
