Driscoll Foods Establishing Foodservice Distribution Facility In Amsterdam, New York

Driscoll Foods, the largest independent broadline foodservice distributor in the New York Metropolitan Market, will establish its second foodservice distribution facility in Amsterdam, New York and create nearly 60 new jobs Montgomery County. The new facility will enable the company to service the Mohawk Valley and Capital Regions of New York State.

“When we decided to expand our market presence in the Northeast, New York State – the Mohawk Valley/Capital Region area in particular – stood out as the best place to invest and grow our business,” said Tim Driscoll, President, Driscoll Foods. “We are breathing new life into a vacant facility, and the new jobs for the community that comes with it. On behalf of the Driscoll Foods family, I want to thank Governor Cuomo and Empire State Development for their support and we look forward to getting our new operations up and running in Upstate New York.”

In 1971, family-owned Driscoll Foods began its delivery business with one truck. Over the last 40 years, the company has become one of the premier food distributors servicing the Tri-State area and now operates more than 90 trucks. The company has grown to over 350 employees and recently built a state-of-the-art 200,000 square-foot facility that provides for delivery of over 10,000 stocked products to their customers daily. Driscoll distributes high quality fresh meats, poultry, milk and dairy products, as well as frozen, grocery, beverage, equipment, paper and cleaning supplies.

“This decision by Driscoll Foods to expand their operations into Montgomery County and transform an abandoned facility is bringing new economic energy into the local community,” Governor Andrew Cuomo said. “By supporting the company’s efforts to purchase and renovate the former Quandts site in Amsterdam, the State is helping to bring nearly 60 jobs and significant private sector investments to the region. This is another sign that the economy is coming back in Upstate New York, and I am pleased to welcome Driscoll Foods to the region.”

As Driscoll Foods sought to expand its operations and territory, the former Quandts facility in Amsterdam came under consideration. To encourage the expansion project in the Mohawk Valley, ESD offered Driscoll Foods a grant of up to $200,000 to assist with the purchase and renovations in the distressed area of Amsterdam. As a result of the project, the foodservice distribution facility will be reused instead of sitting vacant, and the community will see nearly 60 new jobs with potential for the company to continue to expand in New York State.

Empire State Development President/CEO/Commissioner Kenneth Adams said, “Driscoll Foods’ decision to move into the Mohawk Valley and create nearly 60 new jobs is a big win for both the region and New York State. As the business climate continues to improve under Governor Cuomo’s leadership, an increasing number of companies are choosing to invest in New York, and that’s creating new jobs and spurring economic activity all over the state.”

Amsterdam Mayor Ann Thane said, “This is a very positive turn of events for our city as these new jobs will have a significant and positive impact on many families throughout the community. Driscoll Foods made a great decision in choosing Amsterdam to grow their business, and it will prove to be a smart investment for the company. We appreciate Governor Cuomo working so hard to grow the Upstate economy and attracting Driscoll Foods to Amsterdam.”
