Medical Device Manufacturer Expanding, Creating 240 Jobs in Pennsylvania

10/26/2009
Unilife Medical Solutions, a manufacturer of healthcare safety products and medical devices, will expand its operations in Pennsylvania with a new facility and will create 241 new jobs in York County, Pennsylvania, according to the Pennsylvania governor's office. The company earlier this year announced plans to relocate its global headquarters from Australia to its leased operation in Lewisberry, Pennsylvania, and create approximately 30 new jobs, bringing the company's total employment in Pennsylvania to nearly 100. The new plan involves the construction of a larger facility to house Unilife's headquarters and primary manufacturing operations; construction is scheduled for completion by the end of 2012. "As an emerging global leader for innovative safety medical devices, we are committed to helping enhance the international credentials of Pennsylvania as a place for pharmaceutical and healthcare companies to do business," says Alan Shortall, Unilife's CEO. "We are very pleased that the commonwealth of Pennsylvania has chosen to offer Unilife this significant funding packge, and we are fortunate to be working with a government that displays the leadership and forward thinking needed to support companies such as Unilife." The state has offered the company a $5.2 million funding package to facilitate the expansion, which includes $2.5 million in grants, a $2 million loan, $200,000 in training assistance, and $482,000 in job creation tax credits.
