Anduril Industries Plans Baltimore County Maryland, Shipbuilding Operations

10/07/2026
Defense technology company Anduril Industries plans to establish operations in Baltimore County, Maryland. The $3.7 billion project is expected to create more than 3,100 jobs.

The investment will include the construction of a two million-square-foot software-defined shipyard, known as Arsenal-2, at Tradepoint Atlantic in Sparrows Point that will add shipbuilding production capacity to support the U.S. Navy’s Virginia-class submarine requirements.

“Sparrows Point helped build the fleet that won World War II,” said Anduril Co-Founder and CEO Brian Schimpf. “With Arsenal-2, Anduril will return large-scale shipbuilding to a site that can once again define American naval power. This facility will make Baltimore County a critical part of America's submarine industrial base, adding the production capacity that the Navy needs to meet its Virginia-class requirements. Maryland offers the workforce, the infrastructure, and the industrial heritage this mission demands. We're grateful to Governor Moore and state and local leaders for their partnership in making this investment possible.”

To support the project, the State of Maryland and Baltimore County have committed to match up to 13% of Anduril’s anticipated private investment through existing economic incentive programs and new appropriations, subject to approval by the Maryland General Assembly and Baltimore County Council.

“Anduril Industries’ landmark investment confirms Maryland’s status as a global leader in maritime defense manufacturing and a home to the industries of the future,” noted Maryland Department of Commerce Secretary Harry Coker, Jr. “We are thrilled to be working with Anduril to support this transformative project and bring thousands of new jobs to Maryland.”

The state incentive package will also include capital support for the construction of a Center of Excellence workforce training facility at a site to be determined at or near Tradepoint Atlantic. The state will additionally pursue a federal Maritime Prosperity Zone designation for the region.

“Today’s announcement is about more than welcoming a new tenant, it’s about restoring one of America’s most important industrial assets to its historic purpose,” added Tradepoint Atlantic Managing Director Kerry Doyle. “For generations, Sparrows Point helped build the ships that defended our nation. Today, that legacy continues as Anduril reactivates this iconic shipyard to support the next generation of American defense capabilities. Tradepoint Atlantic is uniquely built for this mission. Our strategic East Coast location, deep-water port, robust rail and interstate connections, and access to a world-class workforce make this one of the most capable industrial sites in the country. Together with Anduril, we’re bringing a legacy industry back to Baltimore, creating thousands of skilled jobs, and helping strengthen America’s defense industrial base for decades to come.”

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company that develops and manufactures autonomous systems, aircraft, weapons, sensors, and software for U.S. and allied military customers. The company specializes in the development and manufacturing of autonomous air and maritime vehicles, counter-drone systems, missiles, surveillance technologies, and AI-powered command-and-control software.

“Anduril’s investment at Sparrows Point demonstrates what is possible when state, county, business and economic development leaders work together to compete for major opportunities,” said Greater Baltimore Committee CEO Mark Anthony Thomas. “This is not only a significant investment in advanced manufacturing and the future of Sparrows Point, it will create the kind of well-paying manufacturing jobs that can transform lives, strengthen families and create new pathways to economic opportunity. It is a major win for Maryland and a powerful example of how collaboration can drive economic growth across the Baltimore Region.”
