Budcat and River Bend Closing, Relocating in Iowa
11/19/2010
Activision closed video game developer Budcat, which had a location in Iowa City. The closure will result in 88 layoffs.
"We continue to streamline our music development resources to ensure that they are aligned against our slate and strategic goals. As a result, we are implementing a targeted reduction in jobs in our Quality Assurance team in California and closing our Budcat studio in Iowa. Budcat has been a great partner to Activision and has created a lasting impact on the Guitar Hero franchise," wrote Activision in a release.
In North Liberty, River Bend Industries, an Arkansas-based plastics manufacturer, will close its facility to upgrade its plant in Victor. The company will invest $1 million in Victor operations and relocate equipment and employees.
All 60 employees of the North Liberty facility have been offered jobs, according to River Bend President Ron Embree. The company will also add up to 10 workers in Victor.
