Karman Space & Defense Plans Salt Lake County, Utah, Manufacturing Operations

04/21/2026
Aerospace and defense manufacturer Karman Space & Defense plans to establish operations in West Valley City, Utah. The $28.5 million project is expected to create 100 jobs in Salt Lake County.

The company’s new production facility will support manufacturing of unmanned aerial system (UAS) launchers and nozzle components for space and defense applications.

“We are expanding our presence in Utah to increase production for key programs that protect the U.S. and its allies,” said Jonathan Beaudoin, Chief Operating Officer of Karman Space & Defense. “Our new manufacturing hub in the Salt Lake area will place us closer to customers and provide access to a skilled workforce.”

To support the project, the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity awarded a post-performance tax reduction through the Economic Development Tax Increment Financing program, tied to job creation and long-term capital investment.

“Strategic incentives like these give Utah an advantage in attracting high-impact projects that establish essential infrastructure and advanced manufacturing in our state,” noted Jefferson Moss, Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity. “This expansion supports long-term investment in aerospace and defense and creates high-paying job opportunities.” Karman Space & Defense manufactures advanced systems and components for aerospace and defense applications, supporting critical infrastructure and national security programs.

“EDCUtah is proud to support companies that strengthen Utah’s aerospace and defense ecosystem,” added Ryan Starks, Executive Director of EDCUtah. “This expansion reinforces the strength of the region’s industry and its growing network of suppliers and customers.”
