New $50 Million Schreiber Foods Headquarters Expected to Revitalize Downtown Green Bay, WI

06/09/2011
Schreiber Foods Inc. announces it will build a new $50 million corporate headquarters and global technology center on the site of the closed Washington Commons mall in downtown Green Bay, WI, according to a story reported by the Green Bay Press Gazette. Mayor Jim Schmitt said Schreiber will have about 550 employees at the facility; some are new jobs but most are existing positions at nearby Schreiber facilities.

Founded in Green Bay, WI, in 1945, Schreiber Foods is the world's largest employee-owned dairy company, with over 7,000 employees worldwide (including about 750 in the Green Bay area). It reported more than $4 billion in sales in 2008.

The new headquarters is a big deal for Green Bay's downtown revitalization efforts, said the mayor, due to the quality of the jobs, the company's philanthropy in the community, and the impact it will have on future development. "There are a couple of other major projects in play. This is going to allow us to get confidence . in downtown." .

Schreiber President and CEO Mike Haddad said the state-of-the-art facility will enhance his company's ability to deliver value for their customers by creating "innovative new products and winning business solutions."

The deal is not without cost to the city, reported the newspaper, which will provide $14.5 million in assistance to the project.
