Senior Aerospace AMT To Open Satellite Operations Center In Charleston County, South Carolina

Senior Aerospace AMT, a manufacturer of structural parts for leading original equipment manufacturers in the large commercial jet market, will open a satellite operations in Charleston County, South Carolina, creating 60 new skilled jobs.

Owned by the international engineering group Senior plc., in order to meet the increasing build rate requirements and streamline operations, the company plans to assemble existing products that deliver to Boeing SC within the North Charleston area. Establishing a local satellite location represents the first step to transfer tools and inventory to complete the sub-assembly on existing product that delivers directly to Charleston.

"We are excited to expand into the Charleston region and believe our new site will create value to our largest customers by providing products just in time and point of use. We are proud to be part of the growing Charleston aerospace industry and believe the local talented workforce will help us achieve our long-term strategic goals,” said Jerry Goodwin, Senior Aerospace - Aerostructures CEO.

Senior Aerospace AMT plans to have the site operational by the end of 2014 with new positions to be filled immediately. The company is coordinating with readySC to create a pre-employment training program to begin filling job vacancies. The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits for the project.

We welcome them to the Palmetto State's aerospace industry that has seen a more than 600 percent growth in jobs in the past five years, said Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt.

"The Charleston region's highly skilled workforce, business-friendly climate, and globally connected infrastructure influenced Senior Aerospace AMT's decision to 'take a leap of faith' and locate here to better serve Boeing and enhance its own future growth opportunities. Senior will be a tremendous asset to our growing aerospace cluster for many years to come, Lonnie Carter, Chairman of the Charleston Regional Development Alliance board explained.
