Virtusa Opens Technology Center In Troy, New York, With Plans To Create 200 Jobs

Virtusa, a Massachusetts-based global IT services company, opened its new 10,000 square foot technology center at Rensselaer Technology Park in Troy, New York, with plans to create up to 200 new jobs in the Capital Region by the end of 2014.

The center easily accessible to Virtusa clients across the northeast, the Governor’s Office said. It also allows the firm to offer high quality, cost-effective nearshore IT services to its clients, improving the effectiveness of its optimized global delivery model. Additionally, its location near more than 15 colleges and universities in the Albany area enables the company to source and collaborate with local technology talent. Virtusa is actively hiring to fill positions including engineers, analysts and project managers.

“The new technology center will be a thriving hub of ideas, taking advantage of the region’s abundant technology talent and close proximity to clients,” said Harsha Kumar, senior vice president and executive sponsor for the center. “The dynamic environment is designed to accelerate the ideation process and enable our clients to completely rethink and transform their customer experience.”

Andrew Cuomo said. “Virtusa’s decision to expand and establish its technology center in the City of Troy is the latest example of New York's expanding high-tech sector which is a key component of bringing back the upstate economy. I encourage interested New Yorkers to take advantage of the jobs this expansion has created apply for an opportunity at this growing company.”

In return for the company’s investment in the Capital Region, the State is providing $200,000 in performance-based Excelsior Jobs tax credits. The credits will assist the company with building fit-up and the purchase of machinery, and will support the creation of 40 new, high-paying jobs at the Troy facility. Virtusa, which has two offices in New York City, anticipates significant growth over the next year and projects bringing 200 new jobs to the Capital Region alone.
