Enbridge and First Solar Open 80MW Sarnia, Ontario, Solar Project

11/05/2010
Enbridge Inc., a Canadian firm based in Calgary, and First Solar of Tempe, Arizona, have begun operating Enbridge's 80-megawatt Sarnia Solar Project in Sarnia, Ontario. The facility is one of the world's largest operating photovoltaic plants.

"Our investments in green energy are an increasingly important part of Enbridge's business," said Al Monaco, president, Gas Pipelines, Green Energy & International, Enbridge Inc. "Over the last year, we added four new projects totaling $1.5 billion, increasing our total green energy investment to $2 billion and establishing a solid platform for attractive and sustainable long-term growth with a risk-return profile consistent with our Liquids Pipelines and natural gas businesses. At the same time, our green energy assets deliver strong environmental benefits."

Enbridge produces a total of 850 megawatts of green power, enough to service approximately 292,000 homes. The Sarnia plant is owned by Enbridge and built and operated by First Solar.
