10/06/2020
According to the Borderplex Alliance, the 1.7 million-square-foot warehouse and distribution hub will be constructed on 200 acres of industrial land owned by the El Paso International Airport at Global Reach Drive and George Perry Boulevard in East El Paso. The company has plans to eventually expand the center to 2-million square feet.
“We are grateful for today’s support from the El Paso City Council and the County of El Paso regarding a proposed distribution center project near the airport," said Erika Tower, a TJX spokeswoman. The newspaper said the company is optimistic about leasing the airport land for the project and “the prospect of bringing this project to El Paso, which we expect to create approximately 1,000 full-time jobs for residents of the city and surrounding communities.”
Dee Margo, Mayor of El Paso, said, “This announcement is further proof of my commitment to creating a more prosperous, competitive, and economically vibrant El Paso. We are excited to welcome TJX and grateful to the County and The Borderplex Alliance for their continued partnership in economic development.”
Jon Barela, CEO of The Borderplex Alliance, said, “This is one of the largest jobs announcements in recent history for our region. TJX is a wonderful addition to our community. I’m so proud of our team and partners in local government for coming together to make this happen. Despite the turmoil in the economy and challenges of the COVID crisis, our region is once again proving its grit, determination, and ambition to continue our upward trajectory.”
