MetalX Plans Defiance, Ohio, Aluminum Recycling Operations

The investment will include an aluminum rolling slab manufacturing facility that will convert scrap into large aluminum slabs that will be consumed by rolling mills to make new aluminum sheet for the automotive, beverage and building products industries. In addition the 190-acre campus will feature an aluminum scrap shredding and advanced sortation facility built to support both the slab plant and third-party aluminum consumers. Operations ars scheduled for the first half of 2027.
"We are excited to expand into Ohio and are looking forward to a continued partnership with the economic development groups as we complete final design and engineering, begin to hire our first employees, and break ground on the new facility in the near future,” said Danny Rifkin, MetalX CEO.
MetalX processes more than 350 million pounds of nonferrous scrap every year. The company currently has three operating locations and a corporate office.
“MetalX had many options when choosing where to build its newest facility, and it chose Ohio. The investment will come on a readily developable site with critical access to rail that will bring 180 new jobs to Defiance County,” noted J.P. Nauseef, President & CEO of JobsOhio.
Economic development partners who helped push the project forward included; JobsOhio, the Regional Growth Partnership and Defiance County Economic Development.
